Imagination Library Denver believes reading begins at birth, the benefits of a home library go far beyond the books, and parents/guardians are a child’s first and best teacher.

On July 10, 2020 Governor Polis signed SB20-185 creating a statewide Imagination Library program. This commitment to match every dollar raised for books throughout the state offers a significant incentive for the organization to work with local philanthropists, businesses and individual donors who can leverage the matched dollar to sustain the program.

By providing books at NO COST to families, the Imagination Library increases childhood literacy rates, fosters a love of books, and promotes a culture of reading among underserved families in high-risk communities of metro Denver.

The simple act of reading aloud together helps create a lasting emotional connection, stimulates a child’s cognitive development, and lays the groundwork for a lifelong love of reading and learning.

Help us reach every child in Denver

It only costs $25 to give a child the gift of Imagination Library books for a year. Your generosity will ensure Denver's children enter kindergarten ready to succeed in the classroom and beyond.

Young Girl Reading

The reading essentials

Developing literacy begins at birth. By age three a child’s brain will be 85% of its adult size. By the time a child enters kindergarten, their brain is nearly fully formed.

Teddy Bear Reading

How it works

“Dear Paradies Lagardere,
Thank you for sponsoring the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. My son absolutely loves his Dolly Books and I can see them helping to facilitate a love of reading. A recent book, "I want to Say Goodnight" made him jump out of bed with excitement. When he recognized himself in the character and opened up a whole new way to enjoy reading. Thank you for supporting this great program!”
